Just making marks on a page using a paintbrush and cheap some paints. It may not be “Art” with a capital “A,” but some of these marks might just end up in a surface pattern design one day.
Since my studio walls are being painted, I decided to sit on the floor to paint. I haven’t done that since teaching elementary school art many years ago. Apparently, I’ve gotten a wee bit older because the appeal has definitely faded—it hurts!
In art school, I used to staple large, gessoed canvases to the wall and paint while standing on a counter. I loved the freedom of using my whole body to make bold, expressive strokes. But with my current setup, space is limited, so now it’s 9×12 sheets of paper and much smaller brushes.
Most of these marks will probably never see the light of day beyond these photos. But after scanning, vectorizing, and playing around with color, I can already see the potential for a pattern or two.
