I’m excited to share that my work is featured in the January/February/March 2025 issue of Uppercase Magazine (#64) in the article “Transformative Creativity: Then and Now.” Below is an image of my work as seen in the magazine, plus a small peek at the complete collection in one of the four colorways.
Designing My Second Act
I’ve danced around the idea of making art my career for most of my adult life, working as an art therapist, art teacher and digital designer. When I started my own business, I didn’t feel I had “the right” to be a freelance illustrator, so l opened a web-design business-and I hated it. Then COVID hit, my web-design work dried up and I asked myself, “What are you waiting for?” That’s when realized I’d been waiting to give myself permission.
At the same time, I discovered surface pattern design. Without knowing much, I dove in. It was a steep learning curve, and I often questioned whether I was too late for such a drastic career change. But one day, after designing a pattern inspired by the bee balm flowers in my garden, everything clicked and I knew I could do this!
