How to Work With Me

Art Licensing

Think of art licensing as renting one of my designs for your product (like fabric, wallpaper, or stationery). You get to use my design on your product for an agreed upon period of time and in specific markets or regions. All of this is outlined in a contract, while I retain the copyright to the artwork. There are several options, including exclusive and non-exclusive contracts. Exclusivity can apply to a particular market (stationery, wallpaper, etc.) or region (USA only vs. worldwide). Payment can be made via flat fees or royalties, depending on the agreement. The first step to licensing my art is browsing my available designs. If you’d like to get started, contact me here for access to my licensing portfolio.

Freelance Illustration & Collaboration

If you’re looking for something custom, I also offer freelance illustration services on a one-time or ongoing basis. We’ll start with a design brief that outlines your project, including the scope, deliverables, timeline, and cost—all detailed in a contract. Once the project is complete, you own the copyright to the artwork. I’m always available for custom design work, whether for freelance projects or long-term collaborations. 1. Start by browsing my catalog of collections, patterns, and illustrations. Request access to my private portfolio, choose what you love, and I’ll customize things like color and scale to suit your needs.
  2. We’ll finalize everything with a straightforward licensing agreement that clearly outlines pricing and terms.
  3. Depending on the agreement, payment will be a flat fee or a percentage based on your product sales, paid monthly or quarterly.
  4. Once finalized, I’ll send over the design files. It’s that simple!
  1. Tell me about your project and the type of art you’re looking for. We’ll agree on the design brief, covering everything from payment to deliverables, scope, and due date. A 50% payment is due to start the project.
  2. I’ll provide sketches and rough drafts, along with possible color palettes for the final design. You’ll give feedback, and I’ll move forward with the final design.
  3. You’ll review a preliminary final design, provide any last feedback, and I’ll make any necessary tweaks.
  4. Once you sign off on the design and make the final 50% payment, I’ll deliver the design files and other agreed-upon deliverables.

  • Non-exclusive license: You can use the art on a product or market category for a specific period of time, but I can also use it in one of my print-on-demand shops, or even license the art to other companies within the same market.
  • Industry-specific exclusive license: You have exclusive use of the art for a specific product and/or market, but I may license it for use in other categories. For example, your license could be for wallpaper, while I license the same design for wrapping paper.
  • Territory-specific exclusive license: You have exclusive use of the art in a particular region, but I may license it in other areas. For example, you may have a license for wallpaper in Europe, while I license it for wallpaper in the USA.
  • Exclusive license: The artwork is used solely by your company for the duration of the license.

Note: In all types of licenses, I retain the copyright to the artwork.

The cost depends on the exclusivity, duration, product type, and the number of items you plan to produce.

Prices vary based on the project’s scope and complexity, as well as how long it will take to complete. We’ll agree on all the details upfront, and everything will be clearly laid out in a contract. I offer both one-time projects for a flat fee and retainer options for ongoing work.

While licensing and freelance custom illustration are more common, I do offer complete buyouts under certain circumstances. If a buyout occurs, you will own the copyright to that design.

A derivative is work based on pre-existing work. One common type of derivative of a pattern design is a different colorway or scale of the design. Of course there are many other types of derivative work. To answer the question, “It depends on the type of agreement we have.”
  • If you’ve licensed my artwork: You cannot make derivatives without a new licensing agreement.
  • If I’ve created custom work for you (freelance illustration): You own the copyright and can make changes to it, produce it on other products, or even sell it to another company.
  • If you have not licensed my art or hired me for custom work, then we have no agreement.
